Our Harvest Festival was very successful - thank you everyone! The residents at Bretton Court were delighted with their Harvest produce that you brought in. Take a look at the photographs.

Reading and Phonics
There are a number of websites that can help your child to improve their reading. Below are some links to ones that we have found useful. Please let us know if you have come across anymore that you think others might like!
Home/ School Reading Diary
We have launched our new reading diary this term - don't forget to listen to your children read on a regular basis. Take a look inside the diary, there are lots of ideas for questions to ask. Your child will also be able to tell you what level they are working towards, so use these questions to challenge and extend learning.
Reading Challenge
We are launching a reading challenge this term. Your children will have the opportunity to become a bronze, silver or gold reader and be the proud owner of reading medals. The medals were designed by our children and have been made into fantastic badges. Here are the winning entries.
Bronze Reader designed by Emily Holmes Year 3
Silver Reader designed by Chelsea Holmes Year 5
Gold Reader designed by Elisha Emmett Year 5
Children can wear their badges with pride as they will have worked hard to achieve them.
Learning Power
We are working hard to build learning power. Each term we encourage children to develop a series of skills, called learning muscles that will enable them to become successful learners. These are linked in the 4 R's.
Resilience
Learning Muscles : Absorption; Managing Distractions; Noticing; Persevering
Resourcefulness
Learning Muscles : Questioning; Making links; Imagining; Reasoning; Capitalising
Reflectiveness
Learning Muscles: Planning; Revising; Distilling; Meta-Learning
Reciprocity
Learning Muscles: Interdependence; Collaboration; Imitating; Empathy and Listening

AutumnFocus - Building Learning Power
In the Autumn term, we are focusing on these learning Muscles :
Resilience
Learning Muscle: Noticing - We are asking children to take notice of the things around them, the differences and similarities and how these link to their learning.
Ways you can help : Ask your child to notice the changing season and ask why or you could ask your child to notice how they have used some of thier basic skills in maths or literacy to help them at home.
Resourcefulness
Learning Muscle: Imagining - We are asking children to use their imagination and explore the possibilities of 'what if...'
Ways you can help : Ask your child to imagine things like ' what if you were a character from the book you are reading?' or 'What if you could change the world...?'
Reflectiveness
Learning Muscle : Meta Learning - We are teaching children to understand how they know themselves as learners. How they learn best and how they can explain their learning process.
Ways you can help: Instead of asking your child what they have learnt, ask how they have learnt something - was it through video, books, hands on learning or listening. It could be a combination.
Reciprocity
Learning Muscle : Imitation - We are encouraging children to copy the habits and the behaviours of people they admire.
Ways you can help: You are the most important role model in your childs life, if you can show them how to be positive about school, their learning and each other, which will they will then bring into school.
Dont forget to ask your child about their learning Muscles
